About Mythos Mapping
Mythos Mapping puts strange stories (cryptids, UFOs, ghosts, folklore, and the unexplained) on a globe, so you can explore them place by place.
- Cryptids
- UFOs & Aliens
- Ghosts & Hauntings
- Folklore
- Unexplained
How stories are curated
Featured stories are retold in our own words and always list their sources. Short records give the basic facts and link out to where they came from.
Labels you'll see
- Written by hand: researched and written by a person.
- Drafted with AI assistance: a tool produced a first draft from gathered sources, and a person edited and approved it.
- Imported record: brought in from a public dataset, named on the page.
Locations
A solid pin marks a known spot. A dashed ring means the location is approximate; a bigger ring means it is only known to a wider region.
Dates
A story’s date is the year it was first reported, not when it is said to have happened. The map’s First reported filter uses that year.
